Art Therapy

Expressing yourself when the words aren’t there…

Words are not always needed. They might be noise getting in the way.

Through art, you can SHOW your thoughts and emotions. It’s a way of exploring and resolving issues you might not be able to talk about comfortably.

Art therapy lets you express yourself in healthy and creative ways. Like chipping away at the marble to reveal the sculpture underneath, it helps you tap into your imagination and communicate your innermost feelings. You’ll get to see shapes and forms of yourself that will surprise and inspire you, all leading you to a path for better living.

We can make painting, sculpting, acting, music, drawing, mind-mapping, or poetry…

Whatever it is, it’s all about you and your creation, and it requires no artistic experience or talent!

Anyone can benefit from these therapies…

… especially when combined with other types of therapy.

Maybe regular talk therapy isn’t your thing…

Maybe you’ve been a victim of crime or abuse…

Or maybe you have an underlying mental illness. I once had a schizophrenic client who painted only his eyes behind a wall of black. He said that was where he hid from the hateful voices that never stopped yelling. Art let him communicate something about his disease that we would never have had in words.

There are three basic types of art therapy…

“Gestalt methods” (where the whole of you is greater than the sum of your parts) use art as a springboard for profound talks focusing on the here-and-now of what’s challenging you. It encourages you to take responsibility and “own” the overall arc of your circumstances in life.

“Active imagination” uses your artwork to open your mind – to dive deeply and swim freely in your imagination to enhance your understanding and awareness of your feelings and beliefs. It also facilitates your making new associations moving forward.

The “third-hand approach” enlists my wisdom and intuition to help you create art. You control the overall creative process, but you can use me as a tool for your creation.

A haven to get to the root of your problems…

We can empower you to share your vulnerabilities and beliefs about what’s causing you harm. We can bring your ideal self to the forefront of your daily living.

As a part of your art therapy experience, we might include mindfulness exercises to make you aware of what’s going on in your body as you explore your emotions and feelings (these are NOT always the same). They’ll also help you visualize a future of hope and meaning.

Life is a grand experiment, filled with hypotheses and tryouts. You will decide whether the changes you see in yourself are working. If they’re not, try something different with me at your side.

This is your playpen, and you’re safe to try new things and play zestfully!

You are a masterpiece in the making…

It’s time to peel away the worn layers and reveal your true colors!

We can work together individually, in a group, with your family, or with your significant other. Art is a beautiful way to learn more about each other’s struggles, resulting in increased connection and compassion.

Imagine more joy and freedom in your life…
